Clearing obstacles

“Clearing obstacles” between regulatory and supervisory authorities on the one hand and the drone economy on the other is the goal and aspiration of the EUROPEAN DRONE FORUM in Cologne. In his opening remarks, Achim Friedl, CEO of the organizing UAV DACH e.V., pointed out that the active exchange of all parties involved not only increases the efficiency but also the safety of UAS-based business models. In the direction of the EU Commission and the European Aviation Safety Agency EASA, he formulated the wish that, for all their justified focus on the safety of drone operations, they should also always take into account the needs of the drone economy. With regard to upcoming decisions on the U-space, he renewed the demand to the German government that it should be an enabler for the economic and efficient use of drones and not become a brake.

At #EDF22, more than 165 participants will discuss today and tomorrow at the Dorint Hotel an der Messe Köln how to pave the way for a widespread establishment of commercial drone operations in Europe. In addition, more than 100 interested parties will follow the keynotes and panels via live stream (including simultaneous translation of the speeches into German).

The European Drone Forum in Cologne brings together UAS manufacturers and operators with representatives of European and national legislative and regulatory authorities. This year’s event with international participation is themed “Paving the way for professional UAS operations” and is hosted by UAV DACH in cooperation with the European Aviation Safety Agency EASA and the German Federal Ministry of Digital Affairs and Transport. On November 7 and 8, 2022, experts will discuss, among other topics, current and future challenges in applying for operating licenses. EASA will explain what regulatory innovations are in store for UAS operators. Manufacturers will present technical applications that, for example, permit the operation of up to seven UAS from one control station. And the specifications and measures for establishing U-spaces will also play an important role at the conference.
