The EASA Design Verification process, built upon JARUS SORA, was specifically created to provide a risk-based alternative to traditional aviation certification while maintaining high safety standards. This performance-based approach has proven successful for UAS operations up to SAIL IV.

Given that the DVR relies on a “special condition” with – as of now – an incomplete set of means of compliance, a lack of details, and close to no experience on all sides, the DVR can turn out to be a minefield. To make this a success story, industry and regulators need to collaborate, and for that to happen, must openly exchange expectations, information, and best practices. But how to make this happen?

Ronald Liebsch (Amazon Prime Air) and Stefan Ronig (EASA) will discuss these and other interesting questions at the EUROPEAN DRONE FORUM in Düsseldorf. The townhall debate „A major challenge: How practicable is the Design Verification Process?” will be hosted by Matthias Vyshnevskyy, Head of the Competence Group Design & Manufacturing at UAV DACH – Association for Unmanned Aviation.

The 2025 edition of the EUROPEAN DRONE FORUM hosted by UAV DACH – Association for Unmanned Aviation on 17-18 February will be the first to take place in Düsseldorf – embedded into the world premiere of the XPONENTIAL Europe. Together, we will identify the main obstacles for the UAS industry and discuss how these can be cleared. Fully in line with the theme of the EUROPEAN DRONE FORUM 2025: „Shaping the future: Clearing obstacles to commercial UAS operations in Europe”
