There is a dream of orderly coexistence between drones and manned aviation. While this may seem less relevant in general airspace, there are areas of high traffic where guidance from air traffic control is inevitable. U-space refers to a collection of digital and automated functions and processes in a defined airspace that aim to provide safe, efficient and fair access to airspace for the growing number of civil drone operations.
Amanda Boekholt is deputy director of strategy and innovation at the Federal Office of Civil Aviation. She is leading the legal implementation of the U-space regulatory package in Switzerland. At EDF22, she will report on the key findings of the current U-Space implementation in Switzerland and the future plans of the FOCA. Will the dream come true?
