Cologne, Germany. On Monday, November 15, 2021, the European drone industry met in Cologne with representatives of the national aviation authorities from the European member states, the German Federal Ministry of Transport and Digital Infrastructure (BMVI) and the European Union Aviation Safety Agency (EASA). The occasion was the EUROPEAN DRONE FORUM 2021 of the UAV DACH – Unmanned Aviation Association. Despite adverse circumstances due to rising incidence levels and high travel restrictions, the event could be held in compliance with health protection rules with 120 experts on site and 110 experts online.
EDF2021 was an important event to network
The host, UAV DACH – Unmanned Aerial Vehicle Association was supported this year by BMVI and EASA in hosting the event. Presented and discussed were topics around the safe operation of drones, a fair integration of unmanned aircraft systems into air traffic and the approval process of flights in the medium risk category. In the process, participants became aware of unresolved and emerging issues that are essential to a smooth process and the expeditious attainment of operational approvals.
The vast majority of participants therefore declared immediately after the event that this forum must be continued. It was an important building block, they said, for analyzing and improving the important subtleties in the individual processes that lead to dramatic changes for drone operators.
EUROPEAN DRONE FORUM: Bridging the gap between authorities and manufacturers, theory and practice, administration and operators.
In addition to the conference, attendees were able to see the latest innovations and services from the drone industry at a small exhibition. This exhibition was very well received. Participants were unanimous in saying that their expectations of the conference had been exceeded and emphasized that the exchange between manufacturers, operators and authorities had been easier than in the past. This created confidence and planning security.
The UAV DACH also intends to hold a EUROPEAN DRONE FORUM next year, promised Achim Friedl, Chairman of the UAV DACH.
